Criterion A Task.
Students will investigate an artwork or art movement connected to the statement of inquiry and use formal qualities to describe their chosen artwork.

How do artists promote rights and responsibilities in their art?

How can you choose which social issues to focus on in your own artwork?
Conceptual - How can art communicate ideas for change? Can art challenge a person's perspective?
How can you express an idea to an audience with an artwork?
Debatable - Does the audience always understand the artwork as the artist intended
Task 1 JOURNAL RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT
Dear Students,
Please Use your visual journal to express ideas on what you have found out about the following artists online. If you wish to include other artists, you may, but they must be related to the Statement of Inquiry.
You must include images, drawings, text about the artist, reflections on your findings and media exploration.
You are advised to review the research questions sheet on 'how to research an artist.'
All Artists should be contemporary portrait artists who work in a modern style.
You should include at least four pages.
Please be careful not to plagiarise and look at the sources of your images.
You will present your work to the class to promote class discussion.

Each artist should take up one whole page in your visual journal.
How do the chosen artists' backgrounds influence their approach to social change in their artwork?
Write three facts about each artist and then re-create their artwork across each page. Take care to think of the elements of art and design principles and how they help to communicate meaning, mood or style.
