MYP 1 - Task 3 Creating

This page includes a task rubric for criterion C. The aim is to create artwork based on the inquiry process. In a full unit (all criteria), students could justify the final artwork with the process (crit B) and the investigation (crit A)

Some Teachers design standalone units. As an IB DP teacher and an MYP teacher, I see consistency in completing the art cycle, as this process and justification toward criterion C prepare students for later higher-level courses.

If this were a standalone criterion C task, we would only assess the creation of an artwork

C. Create an artwork

Note the criterion level descriptor for a 7-8

The student demonstrates consistently effective use of skills and techniques through the creation or performance of a finalised work.

The emphasis on consistently effective - connects back to the justification on how students have continued to work through the process journal to create a final artwork as a culmination.

To mark this task, students can present or discuss how they have created the final artwork through skill experimentation and idea development and how this relates to the unit of Inquiry.

Task Outline

Students will create an artwork, drawing inspiration from the statement of Inquiry.

The artwork should be unique, connected to the statement of Inquiry, and justifiable through the process of developing skills.

Task 4 - Create an Artwork and present your work to a peer

Understanding colour and movement helps us understand artistic expression.

Dear Students,

  • Create a final artwork connected to the Statement of Inquiry. (C)
  • Communicate ideas about your process when presenting your project to a friend.

Use your visual arts journal to support your ideas.

Include your ideas, how they connect to the unit's big ideas, and what art skills( techniques and materials) you have experimented with.
