MYP2 Text as Image Task 1

MYP2 Text as Image Task 1
Mel Bochner - BLAH,BLAH,BLAH Part of image - link

Students investigate an artwork or art movement connected to the statement of inquiry. Students will then use the formal qualities to describe their chosen artwork. When designing a rubric, I often create a ‘dear student’ style letter to speak directly to students when assigning a task. I then ask students to place the task in their process journal, either digitally or physically. This helps, as each task requires more than one lesson. Students can relate to the task and reflect on their progress.

Key Concept - Communication

Related Concept - Expression

Global Context - Personal and Cultural Expression,  Exploration: Creation and Artistry

Statement of Inquiry: Words and Images can communicate and express artistic ideas.

Inquiry Questions

Factual - How can ideas be expressed in an artwork through text? How can we communicate ideas in art?

Conceptual - How do the elements of art help communicate an idea?

Debatable - Does an image communicate the same ideas to everyone?

TASK 1:

JOURNAL RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT

Statement of Inquiry: Words and Images can communicate and express artistic ideas.

Dear Students,

You must be able to justify how your investigation is connected to the big ideas in the unit.

This task must be completed in the process journal and include a lengthy investigation.

Part 1

Criteria Ai

I. Investigate a movement or genre in their chosen arts discipline related to the statement of inquiry.

Self-management ATL connect

(Plan short- and long-term assignments; meet deadlines)

Students can be assigned a self-management checklist for each stage of the task to complete by the due date.

MYP 2 Benchmark Journal Rubric

How do I track the progression of learning for MYP1? A process journal rubric can help teachers gauge where students are in their learning. This can help with backward planning in the curriculum design.

Creating a Summative Rubric

Sometimes, IB terms can be overwhelming, so it's a good idea to break things down while continuing to inspire.
